The Haines Economic Development Corp. board of directors directed HEDC staff to conduct an analysis that addressed the question, “Is the purchase of a wood chipper through a USDA Grant by the Haines Borough a viable investment for contributing to the community’s economic development goals?”
The analysis examines that question in depth and provides a basis for this recommendation, which was supported by the HEDC board of directors by unanimous vote at its June 7, 2019 board meeting:
The Haines Economic Development Corp. recommends the Haines Borough proceed with purchasing the chipper to support the development of small and emerging private business enterprise in our community.
We hope this analysis assists the community, Haines Borough staff and assembly with its discussions and decisions regarding the grant for a wood chipper and the biomass project moving forward.
