What we’re working on
As part of our working agreement with the Haines Borough, HEDC has focused on coordinating two important studies in 2018; a Haines Baseline Economic Data Report and a Five-year Economic Development Plan for Haines. Both projects are now complete and published. The HEDC board chose to work with McDowell Group to conduct these studies. Read more about these projects and how to be involved. The Alaska SBDC Director of Rural Program Development, Ian Grant, will be at the Haines Library on March 19 and 20, 2019 to present on developing a business plan.

If you want to start or run a successful business you have to understand the numbers. Regardless of the industry, size or other unique features of your business, financial analysis is critical to both starting a business and staying in business. If you are working on the feasibility of an idea or writing a business plan, you need this class!
This workshop will teach you how to develop a financial plan using the AK SBDC’s Financial Model tool which is an extensive Excel model. Don’t worry, no previous experience with Excel is necessary.
Topics covered include the following:
- Start-Up Budget
- Salaries and Wages
- Fixed Expenses
- Sales Projections
- Income Statements
- Cash Flow Statements
- Balance Sheets
The results of this exercise will be ready to insert into the financial portion of your business plan.
NOTE: This workshop is the first in a series of six. Although attending each one is not required, it is highly recommended that you attend as many as possible.
